That’s Medicaid
Health insurance coverage provides people with access to the care they need—when they need it. That’s Medicaid shares stories of people helped by Medicaid at critical points in their lives.

“If Medicaid wasn’t there to fall back on, I would not have the life I have today.”
Marie was 34 and working at her local library when she suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Marie was temporarily uninsured at the time due to a job transition. She enrolled in MaineCare—Maine's Medicaid program—while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Medicaid ensured Marie could access the physical therapy, occupational therapy, and neurology care she needed to recover. After seven weeks of inpatient care, she left the hospital and began rebuilding her life.
Marie returned to work at the library and disenrolled from Medicaid two years after her stroke. “I’m living a life that wouldn’t have been possible if Medicaid hadn’t been there when I needed it,” she said.
