Expanding Medicaid eligibility is a game changer. It will provide such relief for me, my family, and many others.”

Sarah’s youngest son started experiencing seizures at five years old and continues to experience one to five seizures daily. Sarah had to quit her full-time job to take care of him, leaving her uninsured.

She took a part-time job at a dental office and was building a small business, but her modest income made her ineligible for Medicaid.

In November 2022, South Dakota voters passed Medicaid expansion making Sarah an eligible enrollee. She says now she doesn’t have to decide between going to the doctor and taking care of her family.

"I'm so thankful and proud of South Dakota," Sarah says. "Expanding Medicaid eligibility is a game changer. It's provided such relief for me, my family, and many others."
