“If it wasn’t for this program, I would not be able to work.”

Jim was born with cerebral palsy, a lifelong physical disability. The condition means Jim needs assistance to do daily activities such as get out of bed, take showers, and prepare meals.

“I lived in an institution until I was 21, but then I decided I wanted a more independent life,” Jim says. “That’s what made me go back to school.”

Jim earned a bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree in human services, and now works as a public relations specialist. He leads a productive life with his wife and daughter, and says he couldn’t have done it without Medicaid.

“I need assistance in my everyday life,” Jim says. “If it wasn’t for this program, I would not be able to work.”
