That’s Medicaid
Health insurance coverage provides people with access to the care they need—when they need it. That’s Medicaid shares stories of people helped by Medicaid at critical points in their lives.
“Medicaid expansion has been a wonderful thing for our family.”
After 26 years as an educator Michael was looking for a job. The husband and father of five took part-time work in technology assistance to support his family, but it didn’t include coverage benefits.
Luckily his children were able to qualify for Medicaid after he left his teaching job, but he and his wife were not able to do so until 2015 when Pennsylvania expanded the program under the Affordable Care Act.
All of his family’s medical needs are now covered, including dental, vision, medication, and even for surgeries on his knee after a fall, as well as on his kidney for a benign tumor.
“Medicaid expansion has been a wonderful thing for our family,” he says. “Getting health care for lower and middle-class people is hard, but with Medicaid you are without worry about medical bills. I have a lot to be thankful for in this life.”
