Colorado small business owners Laura and Jed never thought they would need Medicaid. They also thought it was medically impossible for Laura to get pregnant, until she did.
Uninsured and faced with an unexpected and high-risk pregnancy, Laura signed up for Colorado’s Medicaid program. The program was a lifesaver when her newborn son needed emergency abdominal surgery after birth.
Laura and Jed worked hard to care for their son and keep the family afloat, but a serious car accident left Jed permanently disabled. Without Medicaid, Laura says he wouldn’t have made it out of the hospital.
Today, their son is in school and on some days, Jed is well enough to take short walks. They credit Medicaid coverage and Laura’s caregiving as true heroes in their health care journey.
