When Medicare Isn’t Enough

A Lifeline

“I like to help people.”

Now in her late 70’s, Margot is unable to live independently and care for herself due to rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and a spinal cord injury, all of which have limited her ability to move.

When it was clear she needed assistance, Margot signed up for Medicaid and received coverage for housing in a residential care setting that her private insurance could not provide.

As the president of her resident council, Margot helps her peers sign up for Medicaid. Margot also visits those who are bed-bound who don’t get to interact with others regularly to play games, read, and reminds them that they’re not forgotten. She also meets with management to discuss residents needs and requests.

“I like to help people,” she says. “I find that extremely rewarding.”
