“Through Medicaid, my daughter gets the care she needs.”

Sheila’s daughter was born with a birth defect and needed six to seven specialist appointments every week. A single mom, Sheila couldn’t take her daughter to all her appointments while working a traditional nine-to-five job, so she juggled several part-time jobs with no benefits.

Initially Sheila paid for private insurance, but the costs were unsustainable. Qualifying for Medicaid changed Sheila’s life. Medicaid covered her daughter’s care, as well as Sheila’s own medical treatment. Medicaid helped Sheila avoid bankruptcy.

Sheila’s daughter is now 10 and only has a few appointments each week. As her daughter’s health continues to improve, Sheila is confident she’ll soon be able to return to a full-time job.

“Medicaid saved my kid’s life,” Sheila said. “Any parent would do what it takes for their child to be well.”
